Editor's Blog: July 2019

As I sit in a small coffee shop this afternoon, sipping a dark roast to the sound of jazz over the speakers, my mind is racing with ideas of articles and new sections for Atari Edge. Since I was a kid, I have always loved magazines. If I had an interest in a something, it was a must to read magazines that covered the subject. The majority of the magazines I owned as a kid covered the computer and video game industries. Flipping through the magazines to find the few articles that covered the consoles that I owned or was interested in, mainly the TurboGrafx-16 and Atari consoles, was as enjoyable to me than actually playing the games. It was all part of the overall experience.

Over the years, I have ran a few magazines, mainly online, and each project was something that I built from the ground up, designing the artwork, writing and editing the content, and sending it out for the world to read. It had always been very time consuming, but at the same time, extremely relaxing as well. When I decided to launch Atari Edge, I decided to do so in a blog format rather than the traditional magazine format, which was the best way to not be overwhelmed with a workload that would once again burn me out. Since our launch in December of 2017, there has been a steady stream of Atari related news, and the support from Atari has been amazing.

Recently, I have been thinking of ways to bring sections that have always been a staple in video game magazines into AtariEdge.com, and the first of many sections I wanted to start with is the "Letter From The Editor" section, and for Atari Edge, I have chosen to call it the "Editor's Blog". As in other letters from the magazine editor, the new section will be released once per month and give a more personal "letter" to the readers.

With the recent surge in Retro Gaming, I believe the upcoming launch of the Atari VCS is going to merge gaming of the past with modern gaming and entertainment in an amazingly enjoyable way. I feel fortunate to be in a position to cover the journey from the very beginning, and look forward to what's to come in the future.
