The Edge: Double Dragon II (Atari VCS)

In 1988, a year after Double Dragon was released by Taito, Double Dragon II: The Revenge, the sequel to the original game was released by Technōs Japan. Double Dragon II picks up where the previous game ended, with brothers Billy and Jimmy Lee (Spike and Hammer) avenging the death of their girlfriend Maria after Willy, leader of the ruthless street gang retaliated to his previous defeat by shooting her. The death of Maria sends the brothers off to defeat the street gang once again, this time to get revenge.

Double Dragon II: The Revenge is an upgrade to the graphics and sound of the original Double Dragons arcade release. The side scrolling fighting action is the same type of game play as the first Double Dragon release. In Double Dragon II, the hero can use multiple weapons to defeat the enemies, including ball and chain, hand grenade, steel ball, knife, crate, log, and shovel.

As in the original, Double Dragon II: The Revenge was ported to many other consoles and computers including the Nintendo Entertainment System (NES), PC Engine, ZX Spectrum, Commodore 64, IBM PC, Amiga, Amstrad, Atari ST, Mega Drive (Sega Genesis), iOS, Android, Steam, Wii, 3DS, Wii U, and most recently Nintendo Switch. With the upcoming release of the Atari VCS, we look forward to reviewing the game play of the Double Dragon Arcade Trilogy, if the games are included on the exclusive Atari Anstream game streaming service.
